GENERAL QUESTIONS
-
ECC (Electronic Content Consortium) is the board that was created to manage and curate our former consortium. DLIL (Digital Library in Illinois) is the Overdrive consortium under the purview of the ECC. We wanted to use a general Consortium title (ECC) in case we ever expanded to include other e-resources.

Lucky Day copies are non-holdable and non-renewable titles. They are marked with a shamrock icon. You may want to use them for high demand titles. Click her for more information
ADVANTAGE & ADVANTAGE PLUS
-
Advantage are copies you buy only for your library card holders. We recommend libraries have Advantage accounts for popular titles in order to bring down wait times for consortium titles. Advantage Plus is a option to share your Advantage titles with all members of the consortium but your patrons get moved to the top of any holds list. There are different Advantage Plus settings; you can determine how much you choose to share. We recommend libraries with Advantage accounts share older titles with no holds. You may choose to share newer copies with holds.
-
This an Admin setting found in Marketplace. Advantage Libraries need to set up their own sharing permissions. The consortium has no control over your Advantage collection. Overdrive Help Link
COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
-
Due to high digital prices, we prioritize titles published within the last year that have high demand. Unfortunately we can not build a large backlist due to expiring titles. Titles published by Amazon companies are not available for purchase in Overdrive.
-
We purchase titles one month in advance of publication date. Advantage libraries can and do purchase further in advance.
-
We order new titles weekly. We order extra copies to manage holds bi-weekly.
-
We do not purchase titles in non-English languages. Some Advantage Plus libraries do purchase titles in other languages and share them with the consortium. There are also magazines in non-English languages available through our magazine package.
WEEDING
-
Expired titles are not removed from the site and people can still place holds on them. Weeding removes the title from the site and card holders can not place it on hold.
-
Many titles have moved to a Metered Access model and we do not have the funds to repurchase everything. If the title's license has expired it is automatically weeded. It is only repurchased if there are numerous holds.
-
We recommend setting up an automated weeding plan to minimize the work involved in weeding individual titles. This is found in Overdrive Marketplace under Admin. Overdrive Help Link
